  1. I think that this was made by a British soldier to show how badly the colonists treated tax collectors. In the picture, I think that they tarred and feathered the tax collector and are about to hang him.

    1. Coco, I respect your answer, but I disagree. The first piece of evidence that points to a patriot, is the colonists are TRYING to anger King George. The second reason in the Sons Of Liberty are the ones tarring and feathering the tax collectors. The final reason is why would the British do this to themselves-they would not.

    2. Coco, I respectively disagree. The first piece of evidence that shows that a patriot made this piece of art is that the sons of liberty are the ones tarring and feathering the tax collectors. The second piece of evidence is that the British wouldn’t tar the tax collectors because they work for them.

  2. I think this is a British Colonist because the others where laughing at the tar and fethers also hanging the other person and finally they probably wanted to document it and didn't care about being taxed.

    1. Hi Zoe, I agree because in the picture, you could clearly see the colonists laughing at the tax collectors and making fun of them for looking the way that they do.

  3. I think this was made by a colonist to show what they did to the tax collectors. I think this because the colonists hated tax collectors, taxes, King George the ||| and they poured tar on the tax collectors as they came to collect taxes, and then they put feathers all over them. This is why I think the colonists illustrated that picture

  6. I think a patriot colonist made this because he does not seem as tortured as it really was. Even though his face in the picture is not pleasant but I feel like the British would make it look like the tax collectors were way more tortured.

  7. I think this photo was created by the colonists. One reason is because the people that are covering that person in tar and feathers are smiling. My second reason is because the Sons of Liberty are the people that covered the tax collectors in tar and feather. My third reason is because the person getting covered in tar and feathers look very innocent like they didn’t do anything they were just doing their job and are now begging.

    2. Hi Jules I agree. If this was made by a British soldier the Sons of Liberty would have evil grins on their faces while the tax collector might be yelling in pain.

  8. I think this picture was made by the colonists to anger King George. They are smiling as they hang the tax collector. They also tarred and feathered him. The Sons of Liberty were the ones tarring and feathering. That means it was made by a patriot. It shows that the colonists hate taxes.

  9. I think that a colonist made this because in the picture the person is covered in tar and feathers. This is exactly what the colonists did to the tax collectors

  11. I think that the picture was made by the colonist to say that they were unhappy with the tax collectors. The colonists dident like the king for makeing them pay more money for other things and poured tar on the tax collectors.

  12. I think that the artist was a patriot because the painting doesn’t show how bad the tax collectors were hurt. It just looks like a guy with some feathers glued on to his body. If this was painted by a loyalist they would show how much pain the tax collectors were in. Also, it looks like the colonists are being nice to the tax collectors.

  14. I think a British loyalist made it because it is showing how mean the Sons of Liberty were when they poured that tar. They also made them looking like they were mean. Also, they made them looking like they are enjoying it.

    1. I agree with you because the patriots thought that they were doing the right thing when they tarred and feathered the tax collectors, because they were standing up for their rights.

  15. I think that it was drawn by a loyalist because it was showing how bad it was being tarred and feathered. It also shows the other people being nice, and a patriot wouldn’t do that. The ones getting tarred and feathered were tax collectors, which were loyalists.

  16. I think that a British loyalist made this picture. I think he made this to mail to King George III or to other loyalist to show them what the patriots/ Sons of Liberty were doing to the tax collectors.

  18. I think that a patriot drew this painting because the two colonists are smiling so that gives a hint that there are being nice to the tax collectors when they’re physically hurting them. This picture is kinda biased because it looks like the tax collectors aren’t going through pain when they actually are.

    1. I think a colonist made it because, first the people covering him with tar and feathers are smiling, they don’t have any sympathy for him. Also the guy on the left is pouring something in the pitcher onto the tar, if it’s hot water it could make the tar mold more with the feathers even more. And lastly, the Sons of Liberty were the ones who covered them with tar and feathers.

  21. I think this picture was made by the British loyalists because it looks like the man being hung is covered with feathers and I know that the group called The Sons of Liberty, a group of patriots, covered the British loyalist tax collectors with tar and feathers. Also, it looks like the British loyalists may have wanted to look like the good guys and look like they’ve done nothing wrong. It also looks like the man on the left is pouring something on the man, which could definitely be tar.
